"The fundamental mission of motherhood now is the same as it always was: to nurture, protect, and instruct children, to create a home environment that enables them to learn and grow, to help them develop a heart for God and his purposes, and to send them out into the world prepared to live both fully and meaningfully."
-Sally Clarkson from the Mission of Motherhood

Happy Halloween!

Henry had a great Halloween!  This afternoon we put on his costume and let him go and trick or treat at the neighbor's house before going to the church Trunk or Treat.  Henry got a big kick out of everyone wanting to give him candy, but I think he enjoyed some of the activities even more than all of the sugar.  Believe it or not, he even went to sleep tonight at a decent hour!  We had a great time, and we are really enjoying Henry being old enough to understand and participate in fun things like this!

Spooky Storytime at the Library

This morning Henry & I went to the Homewood Library for Spooky Storytime.  Henry enjoyed seeing all of the pumpkins and pumpkin books, but we left about half way through because he was having more fun with the puzzles, animals and computers in the children's section.  We then headed to the Summit to meet David for lunch.  Henry & I are now home, and it is nap time for both of us!
Henry attempting to drive this morning.  He does this a lot.
A little bonding time with Jake :)

It's Quite an Event to be in a Tent!

We had new carpet installed today in our den, so we took advantage of the still furniture-empty room to build a tent tonight after church.  Henry loves to build tents and tunnels, and tonight was no exception!

Halloween Street Party!

Untitled from Brooke Patterson on Vimeo.

This afternoon we went to Mimi & Papa's for their neighborhood Halloween Street Party.  Henry (aka "Winnie the Pooh") had a great time.  He enjoyed looking at the tractor, but wanted nothing to do with the hayride.  He bobbed for a doughnut on a tree (as you could see in the video), went on a pumpkin hunt, and he ate all sorts of yummy food for dinner.  Some of the activities, like the spooky trail and the games were a bit intimidating, but I bet he'll enjoy it all even more next year!

Way to go, Papa!

Today we were on our way to do some furniture shopping, and David just happened to remind me that Papa was possibly still on the tennis court at the racquet club.  We both thought Henry would really get a big kick out of watching him play, so we stopped by, and sure enough he was!  Henry found his own tennis ball, and sat there very quietly watching Papa play!  Maybe Papa can teach Henry to play tennis one day.

The Things Toddlers Come Up With!!

Just in case anyone was wondering, Henry has decided to name one of the twins "Curious George."  The other remains unnamed.  We'll let you know when Henry decides on a name for the other one as well.  Aunt Karen, I bet you had no idea how big of a hit that monkey would be at our house!!

Welcome, Grayson!

Henry has a new cousin!!  Grayson was born at 10:28 this morning, weighing 6 lb. 13 oz. & was 20 1/2 inches long.  Aunt Jenny & Grayson are both doing well, and Uncle Phillip, Carter & Preston cannot wait to bring the two of them home from the hospital!

And, Happy early Birthday to Michael!  We had an early b'day celebration Sat. night including lobster!  Yum!

Henry also got a surprise in the mail from his Aunt Karen.  It was Curious George!  Since last week Curious George goes everywhere with Henry...including the kitchen table for Sunday morning big breakfast!

Two Healthy Babies!!

Our little boy's hiney on the left.  The line down the middle is the membrane that separates them & is what makes them fraternal.  (Obviously all boy/girl twins are fraternal!)
We are so thankful for two healthy babies!  Our little girl (Baby B) was facing sideways, so we could sort of see part of her profile, but no good shots.  Our little boy (Baby A) was sleeping on his tummy, so they got a good shot of his cute little hiney!  They were not fighting today, but they were wiggling.  They have their heads under each of my ribs which explains my recent inability to breathe or get comfortable!  Maybe at least one will decide to move soon!  Today was the big visit where they check heart, spine, brain, kidneys, stomach, bladder, mouth for cleft lip, etc.  They passed with flying colors!  We were so thankful.  They need to get a better look at the boy's heart & face next time, but they were not concerned at all.  He just did not give them a perfect view since he was sleeping on his tummy!  Today, our little girl outweighed our sweet little boy by 1 oz., which is just fine.  They were 10 & 9 oz., respectively, and we are so thankful for every single ounce!

The Pumpkin Patch

Henry has just had a big weekend!  David was a little under the weather today, so Henry and I tried to give him as much time at home alone as possible.  We went to Panera this morning for breakfast before church, and then after his nap we met Mimi & Papa at Old Baker's Farm. Going to a pumpkin patch is one of our favorite fall outings.  Henry loved the animals, the pumpkins, the homemade lemonade, jumping in the cotton, and the hay.   However, he did not like the big tractors for the hay ride, and he refused the pony ride with no hesitation!  They had big tractors pulling people to and from the pumpkin patch, and Henry wanted nothing to do with that.  We actually had someone go get us pumpkins and bring them back to us just so we could avoid the tractor ride!  All in all, it was a great trip.  I was just thinking today that in a few years when he can go through the corn and hay mazes and go to a night bonfire where they have smores and hotdogs, it will just add even more to our annual trip.  This year will be hard to top though.  It doesn't take much to excite and fascinate a toddler, and Henry thought everything we did was just amazing!

Tailgating in the Loveliest Village on the Plains

We had such a great time in Auburn today!  Henry has not been to Auburn since Michael graduated, so I think he really enjoyed it.  He was so fascinated by all the Auburn stuff and especially Aubie!  Due to the 4:00 kickoff, he was way too tired to stay for the game (as you can see in the last pic!)  So, we headed home & he slept the entire way!  We had a great time seeing our family today, and we look forward to doing it again!
