"The fundamental mission of motherhood now is the same as it always was: to nurture, protect, and instruct children, to create a home environment that enables them to learn and grow, to help them develop a heart for God and his purposes, and to send them out into the world prepared to live both fully and meaningfully."
-Sally Clarkson from the Mission of Motherhood

Happy First B'day Becca!

While David took our DNow group to do tornado relief work, I took the kids to Becca's first birthday party. It seems like she was born yesterday! I can't believe this precious girl is one. Her mommy is one creative school teacher, so I was not surprised at all to see the cutest Eric Carle birthday theme based on the "The Hungriest Caterpillar." It was so cute. Grace & Grant were so proud of their paintings! (Henry was too busy playing football with the big boys to make one.)

DNow 2012

We hosted 12 seventh grade girls and one college student (leader) in our home for Disciple Now Weekend from Friday to Sunday. It was wild and crazy, but so much fun! I felt like I had left a mission trip after it was over. We were totally exhausted, but equally blessed to have been a part of such a neat experience.
Headed to do mission work/tornado relief
Bible Study
Fun games with Anna Leigh and Denis!

And the kids loved getting to tie dye their shirts with bleach with the big girls!

Field Trip!

I chaperoned Henry's field trip last week to go see "The Little Engine that Could" at Children's Theater on Wednesday. The kids had so much fun, and I enjoyed getting to meet some more of Henry's friends.

No Desire to Repeat this Week

This past week was truly terrible from Monday on. I try to be positive and highlight the good things that go on around here, but this week was pure misery. Ear infections, coughs, fever, sick kids & other unmentionables just left us all depleted. When Grace goes back to school next week (provided she does not catch something else) it will have been 10 days since she last went to school. This momma (well, really all of us) cannot catch a break. So this picture perfectly summed up how we all felt by the end of the week. Grace just fell asleep on the bar in the kitchen on Friday. Bless her heart! Hopefully we are all on the mend now! If not, I would like to move further south where it is warmer because winter and all its germs and yuckiness is more than I'd care to deal with!! Spring, where are you?!?

Happy Valentine's Day!

A few of the 17 teacher gifts Henry helped me prepare (homemade sugar cookies) for all of our choir teachers (5), sunday school teachers(5), mission friends leaders(4), and teachers at school(3).

Henry had fun writing all the names of the kids in his class on his valentines.

The kids ate all of their valentine candy (almost) in one sitting after school. They had a ball!

The Weekend Update

with Norm McDonald...I kid :)

The highlight of the weekend for Henry was having two of his best buds over for a nice long playdate on Friday evening. Elliott & Austin came over and played from about 4:15 until bedtime. The kids had pizza, raced cars, destroyed evil villains....you get the idea....boy stuff. The time flew by and no one wanted to part when it was time to go home! Henry was in heaven. He counted down the days until this big playdate. We will have to do that again soon.

Henry's first basketball trophy!

Henry had his final basketball game last Saturday, and he got his trophy after the game since we were unable to attend the end of season party. I think Henry really enjoyed trying a new sport, but I must admit I was ready to simplify our calendar for a little bit....that is until soccer gets started up the end of March!
The kids had fun coloring this giant cardboard house they received as a birthday gift. They have had the best time playing in it and decorating it. Grace is doing a diva pose in this pic I think :)

Grant & Grace's Birthday Party!

Grant and Grace were so excited about their gymnastics birthday party. They counted down the days for nearly the entire month of January. They could not wait! In their eyes, the party did not disappoint! It was wild and crazy with 25 kids, but they had a great time celebrating with all of their favorite people!

Grace blowing out her candles on her Tinkerbell cake!

Grant requested Nana make him a Spiderman cake! As always, she was up to the task!

Happy Birthday, Brooks!

After basketball on Saturday, we headed to help Brooks celebrate turning 2. Grant LOVED the blue icing on his cake!

He Shoots, He scores!

Henry's final basketball game of the season is next Saturday. He has had such a fun time. David is particularly proud that he dribbles with his head up :)

The typical scene on the bench: kids crawling under me and on top of me throughout the game!

THREE!!

It seems like just yesterday, but now Grant & Grace are three!! Seriously, where does the time go?

Our babies are not babies anymore! They are three! Grant and Grace turned three on Friday, and they had a wonderful birthday. We had cupcakes for breakfast and opened presents before school. Then they took Krispy Kreme donuts to school as their birthday snack for their class. They are both so proud to be three :)
