"The fundamental mission of motherhood now is the same as it always was: to nurture, protect, and instruct children, to create a home environment that enables them to learn and grow, to help them develop a heart for God and his purposes, and to send them out into the world prepared to live both fully and meaningfully."
-Sally Clarkson from the Mission of Motherhood

Grant & Grace's Dedication

Grant & Grace were dedicated yesterday, just two days shy of the "12 week" marker!  I cannot believe how fast time is flying by.  Henry behaved perfectly.  We were so proud of him.
Dr. Foust carried both babies up and down both aisles of the church at the same time...an impressive feat!  The dedication was very meaningful to us as parents.  David and I do not take lightly our responsibility to raise our children in such a way that they would one day come to know Christ.  We were so thankful that our family was there for this special service and the yummy lunch that followed!

Sorry this is the best picture we got!  After church Henry was hungry & not in the mood for pictures!  I'm going to put them back in their gowns to get better pics.
Grant & Grace looked precious!

A Great Day for the Zoo!

David was off work today & able to keep the twins, so Henry joined Pierce, Maury & Carter at the Zoo today, and they had a great time.  We broke down & bought the membership since Henry talks about the Zoo so much.  He absolutely loves it!  Now we can go any time.  This summer I think he'll enjoy the splash water park area & the "foam zone."  Henry literally ran through the zoo for almost 2 hours, then we had a picnic.  He crashed in the car.  It was a big day for him!

I wish I had a video, because fearless Henry was roaring at the tiger the whole time!  Hilarious!
Yes, we washed our hands after petting the animals!
Henry was shouting, "Watch out animals!  Here I come on my tractor!"
Henry called this his "rabbit."  Hmm...need to work on our animals a bit!

Way to Go, Henry!

Henry has gone to the potty at school two days this week, and came home each day with a stamp on his hand!  I sent him in a pullup, and we are hoping for another stamp today.  If he comes home with a stamp, he has a new "Mater the Tow Truck" waiting on him and he knows it.  We'll see what happens today!

Grace is a determined little girl.  She is trying hard to roll over already!  Grant's newest trick is his smiling and talking. He smiles and coos a lot more than Grace.  It is just amazing how different they are!

Weekend at the Beach!

All I wanted for my birthday this year was a weekend at the beach.  So, we went to Destin, and we took Rebecca & Ava with us to help us with the kids.  I hate I did not even get a picture of them with the kids while we were there.  We had a fantastic time, and it was so nice to get away.  Of course, it is nice to be back home now too!

Above & below: Baytowne Wharf Friday night

Henry loved the beach more than ever this year.  We saw a huge difference from last summer until now.  He plays so well, entertains himself, and does not get knocked down in the water so easily.  He absolutely loved the sand.  He just played and played and played!
And yes, that is Grant again on the pink blanket!

A Great Easter Weekend (Part 2)

Yes, it is official.  Michael & Lindsey are getting MARRIED!!  Michael popped the question Saturday night, but we were sworn to secrecy until Lindsey had her candlelight tonight at chapter.  Michael told Lindsey that we were having a b'day dinner.  However, when Lindsey got to our parents' house, no one was there but Michael.  Michael had dinner on the dock (all Lindsey's favorite foods & her favorite flowers) after asking her to marry him.  The set up was beautiful.  Here are a few pics below! And afterwards, Michael surprised Lindsey by having invited all of her family & our family for an informal dessert party!  We enjoyed spending time with Lindsey's family & helping them celebrate!
Below, Michael setting up for the evening.  We all pitched in a little bit on Saturday, but he & Liz did so so much to make the evening special!!

A Great Easter Weekend (Part 1)

We had a jam packed Easter weekend.  We were gone from 8 am to 9:45 pm on Saturday and from 9 am to 8:45 pm on Sunday.  We had fun, but we are worn out!  The above pic is Saturday morning as we were getting the kiddos ready.  I had Grant & Grace on the bed dressed to go.  Henry decided to squeeze in between them.  He did not want to be left out!
Saturday in Cullman at the Welti Church Easter Egg Hunt
Henry, Reid & Kate were lining up!
Grant & Grace had their first experience dining out on Saturday night, and they did great!  We had mexican as a belated birthday dinner for me!

"Mommy, Grant's touching me!!"
Grace: "Much better!"
Henry was a pro at hunting eggs by Sunday afternoon at Aunt Karen's house.  He was running around throwing eggs right in his basket.

Easter morning.  M&M's for breakfast: could life get any better for a two year old?
I was up until 12 & back up at 5, but we did get to church on time!  Mission accomplished! :):)
And what would we do without Grandmother?  She came over at 8 to help us get everyone dressed and out the door on time.

Hippity Hoppity Easter's On Its Way!

Today we wrapped up the Easter "agenda" for the week (which consisted of getting a haircut for Henry, getting outfits lined up, making the kids matching Easter baskets, getting carrots for the Easter bunny and baking Easter cookies.)  We finally made it to see the Easter bunny, and we dyed our Easter eggs!  We are officially ready for Easter weekend!  We hope everyone has a blessed Easter and remembers that sacrifice He made that we might live.
A story worth noting.  My dad told me today, "You better write these down so you'll remember them one day!"  Henry has recently learned to take his diaper off & can often be found completely naked in his room at nap time.  After multiple attempts to get the child to put something on (underwear, pullup, diaper...ANYTHING), David said, "Brooke, let me go try to reason with him."  David went in his room and asked in a very sweet way, "Henry, why won't you wear a diaper?"  Henry replied in the most sincere voice, "Because I'm trying to pee in the floor."  To which David replied, "Henry, we don't pee in the floor.  We pee in the potty."  To which Henry replied, "But I want to (pee in the floor!)" (And yes, Henry eventually did pee in the floor.  And yes, I had to punish him to teach him that is unacceptable!)  Oh, the terror...errr I mean joy of a two year old!!

Getting Brave!

This past week has been wild, hence the absence of a post from us.  Henry had a fever virus for 5 days, and so we were trying to get him well and keep the babies quarantined.  He is well, and the babies did not get it!  We are so excited! :)  However, I did pretty much have to push my bday weekend aside to care for our munchkins.  That is fine, though!  We are planning to celebrate it at the beach next weekend instead!  Above is a pic of Grant and Grace.  They literally look like they are having a conversation, which is so funny to me.
Sunday I got brave & decided to take the twins to church.  The above pic is them in their church clothes after their first trip to the nursery.  I had already taken Henry to the doctor at 7:45.  When I got home and David decided to take care of Henry while I took care of the babies (b/c we were keeping them separate), I decided my crew was going to church!  It was quite an ordeal, but we did it!
Lounging around the house with Grant & Grace on Saturday.  It is so fun to hold 2 babies at once!  They are precious!  (I know I'm biased, but they really are!)
Saturday you could either say I lost my mind or got really brave.  We needed groceries, and David had Henry at home with a high fever.  So, I took both babies with me.  As you can see, there was little room left for the groceries!  However, I managed to squeeze a week's worth of food around them and under the cart.  Of course, I could not get it back in there.  It took two carts to get it all to the car!
Grant & Grace playing in the floor.  They have so much fun together! :)

8 Weeks!

Grace and Grant were eight weeks old yesterday!  It is so hard to believe how fast they are growing.  Time is flying by already!  Nana & I took them to Dr. Stone for their checkup and shots yesterday.  Grant weight 10 lb. 10 oz. & Grace weighed 8 lb. 14 oz.  Grant had gained 1 lb. 14 oz. in 21 days, and Grace gained 1 lb. 7 oz. in 21 days.  They both were 21 1/2" long.  They are just growing and changing so much, and we are so thankful that they are so healthy!  We don't go back to the pediatrician until the 4th of June, so I can only imagine how different they will look by then.  Wow.  The above pic is the best I could get of us leaving for our first trip as a family of five to Wednesday night church.  Henry wanted no part of the pic as you can see!
Henry burping Grace.  Precious!! :):)

Grant napping with Dad
Nana & I have been painting a lot lately!  We have had so much fun doing it when the babies are napping or late at night when everyone is asleep.  The cross above is something I did.  (Don't laugh!  I was really trying, and I actually hung it in our bedroom!)
Henry painted too, and we hung his picture in his room.  He was SO proud!  I painted a pic for Henry's room also.

Henry sneaking an M&M as he decorated some Easter cookies with Nana.  He's becoming quite the chef!
