"The fundamental mission of motherhood now is the same as it always was: to nurture, protect, and instruct children, to create a home environment that enables them to learn and grow, to help them develop a heart for God and his purposes, and to send them out into the world prepared to live both fully and meaningfully."
-Sally Clarkson from the Mission of Motherhood

Grace's New Wardrobe

Grace has decided she'd prefer a leotard to pretty much anything else in her closet! I took this pic the other morning. Grant was still in his pj's, and she had already changed herself into her leotard of choice for the day. Dance classes cannot start soon enough. Mid September, where are you?!?

This pic was taken last weekend when we had some friends over to a cookout. Grace decided this sparkly leotard complete with matching sparkly shoes was just the look she was going for that evening! (I have given up trying to explain that dance clothes are for dance class. She does not see it that way!)

Grant's Special Day with Mommy

Grant LOVED the train, but was way too excited and intrigued to have time for posing for pics! He was taking it all in!

Grace spent the night with Mimi & Papa last night, and Mimi took Grace to a tea party this morning. Henry had preschool. So, Grant & I had a special day! I asked Grant last night before we went to bed what he wanted to do on his special day. He said, "I want to go to the library to meet Captain Hook and then go look at Christmas Trees!" Where do they come up with this stuff? I laughed about that several times. Captain Hook is not even at the library. He just made that up on the spot. (He's more like his big brother every day.) So, this morning after dropping Henry off at school, he'd decided he'd settle for a train ride at the zoo and then looking at Christmas trees. So we went to the zoo, saw the elephants and a few other animals, rode the train, then left to go to Hobby Lobby to look at Christmas trees! After that we met Mimi & Grace for lunch before heading to get Henry. It was a fun, special day! Thanks, Mimi & Papa, for allowing me to have one on one time with Grant!

Fun Time with Cousins!

Reid & Kate came for a great visit on Saturday. Nana & Papa stayed for part of their visit too! We had a great time, and the kids LOVED spending time with their cousins. We can't wait for them to come back and hope they'll bring the rest of the cousins with them next time!

I had to post this last pic which we took to commemorate Henry's first Sunday in worship with us. He did great and went right down the aisle when it was time for Kids in Christ (our children's church program.) I was very proud of him and even managed not to cry over this milestone! :)

Following in Big Brother's Footsteps

I'm thinking Grant may have Henry's sense of humor.

We were outside tonight having dinner and a fly was flying around Grant's food. Grant said, " No, no, bug! You eat my lunch, I put you in TIMEOUT!" Funny, funny. :) He was so serious. Good luck putting the fly in timeout, Grant! That boy is serious about his food!

Plenty of Play Dates

We had so much fun on Thursday having friends over to play. Thursday morning Grant & Grace had a playdate with Peyton, Brooks, and baby Elizabeth. I was too busy chatting with their mommies to take a pic! Then, Thursday afternoon Henry had James over to play. Those two are such a mess. This is their rock band concert in our den. So funny!

The Things That Child Says!!

Henry: "You're not the boss of me!"

Me: "Oh really? Then who is?"

Henry: "Dad."

Me: "And what exactly am I?"

Henry: "Just a servant."

HA! I don't know where he comes up with this stuff :) Happy Tuesday, everyone!

Fun Times with Old Friends!

On Tuesday, Grant and Grace had Sawyer, Norah & Walt over for a play date! Their mommies, Katy & Lindsey, were two of my friends at church growing up! The kids had such a fun time playing together, and the moms had a fun time catching up!

A Great First Day!

Power breakfast before school. Daddy even cooked them bacon!
(Henry is very into making his own poses for the camera these days!)

Yesterday was an easy first day of school. The kids could not wait to get back to see old friends and teachers! It is hard to believe this was Henry's fifth "first day" at his preschool which he has attended since he was nine months old! I cannot believe how time flies! He had a wonderful time and now "rules the school" as one of the big kids. Grant and Grace loved it too, and they are already asking why they don't get to go five days a week like Henry. Today Grace suggested we "take turns." She does not like that Henry gets to go and she doesn't on Tuesday/Thursday!

I also bought Grace her first dance clothes on Monday since she will be starting dance in September at her school. She was thrilled, immediately had to try it all on and wore it until bed time last night! She is ALL girl! I think she will really enjoy dance, if for no other reason than that she can prance around in her dance attire for an hour! (I see an expanding collection of leotards in our future as she truly went nuts over wearing this one. It was like playing dress up!)

August Beach Trip

Grace loved the water this time and constantly begged for us to take her out in it!
The big boys: Carter & Henry

Dinner at the Crab Trap....yum!

Guess who put Grant up to this (and took this pic)? One hint: not his mommy!

We squeezed in one last trip to the beach before school starts next week! We went with our friends, the Jackmans, and had a great time!

David's Birthday

Don't you just love the way Grant is now copying Henry's "power ranger poses" for pictures? They look like they are ready for a good fight!

David had a wonderful 31st birthday last Sunday complete with cookie cake for breakfast. Happy Birthday, David!
