"The fundamental mission of motherhood now is the same as it always was: to nurture, protect, and instruct children, to create a home environment that enables them to learn and grow, to help them develop a heart for God and his purposes, and to send them out into the world prepared to live both fully and meaningfully."
-Sally Clarkson from the Mission of Motherhood

Sweet Dreams

Henry came home from school right before nap time today.  He got a blanket & curled up in a chair & asked to watch tv.  He was alseep in minutes with a matchbox car in his hand.  So sweet!  He is now upstairs in his room.  Sweet dreams, Henry! :)

Ladies First? Oh, I think not!

Grace and Grant are rapidly running out of room.  In both pics (the first is Grace, the second is Grant) their faces are extremely smashed, as if they had their face pressed against glass.  So, no their noses really aren't that big!!  They are just living in very tight quarters these days.  Today Grant weight 5 lb. 5 oz., and Grace weighed 4 lb. 13 oz.  They are both doing great, and their growth is in the normal range for 34 weeks.  We are so excited and anxious for them to make their appearance, but still thankful for every day.  If we can make it one more week, there is a good chance they won't have to go to the NICU at all (which is something we never thought possible!)  God is good, despite by misery, God is good!  Those babies are worth it!

We also got confirmation once again that Grant will almost certainly be born first due to his position.  So, I guess "ladies first" is inapplicable in the womb!  Grace will be so lucky to have two big brothers to take care of her!

Thankful for our Friends!

We have had so many friends help us in recent weeks that I cannot even possibly recount all the good deeds on the blog!  We are so thankful for all of you & do not know what we would do without you!  This pic is just one example.  Last night Sally & Owen came by to pick Henry up to take him out to dinner with Maury & Carter & give David a short mental health break.  By the looks of this pic, I'd say they had a great time!

Thanks, Mimi & Papa!

Henry ran a fever one night this week with a cold.  The next day he seemed much better & did not have a fever, but he could not go to school until he was fever free for 24 hours.  That same day David had to take me to the hospital, and we were there from about 8-5.  So, Mimi AND Papa both took off work and spent the whole day playing with Henry.  This is a picture of them at the mall.  They rented a car, and Henry loved driving.  The picture is small because Mimi texted it to me on her cell phone!  Thanks for capturing the fun for us to see, Mimi!

Mimi & Papa also cooked chili & had it in the crockpot when we got home from the hospital.  It was so nice to walk in from a long day like that and have dinner ready to eat.  We are truly grateful for our family and all they do to help us survive this crazy adventure! :)

Thanks, Grandmother!!

Grandmother has been a HUGE help lately with food at our house.  She has stocked our freezer with ham, roast beef, spaghetti sauce, bacon, homemade pancakes & biscuits, and sausage.  It has been so nice to be able to just thaw something out & be ready to eat in no time.  She's also been bringing over various meals such as rotisserie chicken, country fried steak, egg salad for lunches, and Italian lentil soup.  She's constantly telling me to tell her anything in the world we want to eat & she will fix it!  The problem is we can hardly eat the food as quickly as she brings more!  (What a great problem to have, though!)

So, this afternoon after church we heard a knock on the door, and it was Grandmother.  She stopped by with a dozen hot Krispy Kreme donuts and barbeque from Full Moon.  Yum!  David thought he had died and gone to heaven.  There is nothing better on the planet than barbeque to him.  Henry was beside himself as he had his first ever donut.  He ate the entire thing & wanted more!  I have a feeling he will wake up from his nap asking for donuts for dinner!  So, thanks, Grandmother!  You have been a lifesaver!

Bundle Up!

Carrying my toys to the car with mittens is a little tricky!  David did a great job making sure Henry had on plenty of warm clothes this morning before going to school for a few hours.
Check out my mittens & my hat!

Growing Like CRAZY!

Look at all that hair!!  For those not used to looking at an ultrasound, typically you would just see a circle for the baby's head.  All that fuzziness on top is hair...a lot of hair!  This is Grace.  They both have hair, but they told me today to bring hairbows to the hospital, because that girl is going to have some hair!
This is Grant.  It is not a great pic, but you can see his nose, eyes & forehead.  His hand is covering the rest!
Grace's hands.  She did not want her picture taken today.  She was trying to get her beauty rest and did not want to be disturbed!!

Today we had a great report at the doctor.  Everything could not have been better.  Apparently last week Grant's measurements were off.  This week he weighed 4 lb. 9 oz. & Grace weighed 4 lb. 7 oz.  They are both measuring on time for a singleton, and ahead for multiples.  The doc said they have plenty of fluid and their heart rates were "awesome" on the non-stress test in labor and delivery.  My iron is high & my blood pressure is low...both unusual for a mom of twins.  Truly we could not have gotten better news, except that I will likely be pregnant with these babies for a while longer if things continue to go so well!  I cannot imagine carrying more than 9 lbs. of baby.  Good grief!!!  (I will endure the misery for the benefit though, of course!)

We are truly thankful for all the prayers!  They are definitely being answered.  We've got bigger babies already than we ever realistically thought was possible.  God is good!

Big Birthday Weekend

We had a big birthday weekend celebrating 4 birthdays in our family.  Friday night we celebrated Papa's birthday at our house.  Everyone was nice enough to come to us since I can't get out of the house much these days.  Henry loved all the candles.  Mimi & Papa love spoiling him so much that they actually got him his own set of cupcakes (as you can see below), and they sang Happy Birthday to Henry after singing to Papa!  Can we say spoiled rotten?  Then again, as my Papa used to say to me, "Show me a child that isn't spoiled, and I'll show you a child who's been deprived!"  Henry's Papa is simply carrying on the tradition.  Happy Birthday, Papa!  We had fun at your party!!
Then, Sunday afternoon David & Henry headed to Cullman for Will, Reid & Kate's birthday parties at Fun Zone (which is similar to Pump it Up for you B'ham folk.)  Will turned 5, and Reid and Kate turned 3.  They are growing up too fast.  Of course, Nana, as always made them all their own cakes.  I'm jealous that I missed out on the fun, but thankful David took so many pictures and videos for me!

Thanks, Uncle Michael!

Michael has been over every afternoon this week to drive me to get Henry from school & stay with me until David gets home from work.  I am so grateful for his help, and I know Henry has loved it!  This afternoon Michael & Henry played outside, which Henry does not get to do very often since it is typically too cold.  In this pic, Michael is working on Henry's golf swing by hitting sweet gum balls off the tree house.  So, thanks Uncle Michael!  You have been a lifesaver.  We'll miss you when you go back to school.

On another note I had an unexpected trip to the hospital Wednesday.  All is well, and they sent me home with more medication to try to get the babies to STAY PUT a few more weeks!!  However, it was great to know that the babies are doing great.  Grant weighed 4lb. 8 oz., and is becoming quite a big boy!  Grace measured right on time at 3 lb. 13 oz.  We are so excited that they are growing so well, and I know that with every passing day they are getting just a little bit bigger!

Happy New Year!

Henry saying "cheese" this morning before church in his new tractor outfit from Mimi & Papa.

New Years Day we went to Grandmother's house for a home cooked meal.  We had pork, black eyed peas and collard greens for good luck!  (I think the chocolate cake for dessert was Henry's favorite!)
