"The fundamental mission of motherhood now is the same as it always was: to nurture, protect, and instruct children, to create a home environment that enables them to learn and grow, to help them develop a heart for God and his purposes, and to send them out into the world prepared to live both fully and meaningfully."

Grant's First Soccer Game

Carter & Pierce played on the field right beside us at the same time. Maury and Henry enjoyed cheering for their little brothers!

Grant missed his first soccer game due to having an ear infection. He was SO excited to go to play soccer on Monday, but when he got there things initially fell apart. (I think it had more to do with being up the night before and going to school all day. He was tired.) Nevertheless, he rallied, and really had fun at his first game! He even scored a few goals and ran for hugs each time. Thanks to Nana, Papa, Uncle Wes, Mimi & Papa for making a special trip to come cheer!

Hippity Hoppity....

Easter may be on its way, but the Patterson children are far from thrilled. Fearful is a better word. Despite Henry assuring them it is "just a guy dressed up in a suit," Grant and Grace are terrified of the Easter Bunny. We started calling him "EB" in code when David and I speak of him in the kids' presence so as not to cause a meltdown just by uttering his name. Honestly, I can't really blame them. The Easter Bunny is kind of creepy if you ask me!

Today we attended an Easter themed birthday party for our friends, Katherine and Jacob. The kids loved the egg hunt, cake, egg relays, Easter crafts and tattoos....but when the Easter Bunny made an appearance there were two children screaming in terror. We had to go hide until the "EB" left the premises! Other than that, they had a great time, and we hope Katherine and Jacob had a wonderful time at their party!

And the Fallout Continues

The fallout of Henry's baby teeth, that is :) Henry lost another tooth, his third, this week while spending the night at Mimi & Papa's. He lost it in the middle of the night Tuesday while sleeping on a sleeping bag in the playroom. Apparently he had eaten popcorn while watching a movie and had lost his tooth amidst some popcorn crumbs in the middle of the night. Luckily, when he woke up Wednesday morning, Mimi helped him find it! Then, Wednesday night he left it under his pillow for the Tooth Fairy, and when Henry woke up sweet Mimi was back at our house (at 5:30am since we had to take Grant to Children's for outpatient surgery), so Mimi also got to witness the excitement of Henry waking up to find the tooth was replaced with money!
And a pic of the kids before church this am :)

Our Little Trooper!

Grant had to go in for a little outpatient surgery today. He was so brave. He did a great job, and we have been at home resting all day. After naps, it was still raining, so I made chocolate chip cookies for a snack on the porch.

We owe a HUGE thank you to Mimi who got up long before the crack of dawn to come over and stay with Grace and Henry while we took Grant. Mimi & Papa also kept the kids two days and one night this week while I worked, since it was Spring Break. The kids had a blast, and I think Mimi & Papa had fun too. Papa even took off of work to join in on the fun. A big thanks to Mimi & Papa. I don't know how we'd survive without you! :)

Spring Break!!

If I had only known that it would be unseasonably warm, I might have booked a beach trip. However, we have definitely made the most of this beautiful weather while at home during Spring Break! I've planted 6 flats of flowers (with David's help), and we've had fun with friends and family.

On Saturday Norah was in town from Gulf Shores and came over for a sprinkler play date. The kids loved it. It was the first time they have gotten out the sprinkler and their bathing suits in 2012.

On Sunday afternoon, we met Uncle Michael and Aunt Lindsey and their new dog, Minnie, at Veterans Park. It was so beautiful and so nice to just be outside. (I failed to take my camera on this outing.)

Monday, Tuesday night, and Wednesday the kids spent the day with Mimi & Papa while I worked, and they had loads of fun. Mimi is also keeping Grace and Henry tomorrow while we take Grant for some minor outpatient surgery. Say a prayer for Grant tomorrow, and I'll report back on that! :)

And yesterday was quite a day. We had another sprinkler play date, but in the afternoon I kept all seven kids by myself for a few hours! It was actually totally fine, and they did great. The three little ones took naps, and the four big kids did at least have a little quiet time watching TV in the playroom. My three definitely enjoyed having so many friends to play with!

Sweet Caroline!

Fun Time with Friends and Family

Last weekend we did a lot of entertaining, which was really fun. On Friday night we celebrated Mimi, Wes & Lindsey's birthdays. Michael surprised Lindsey with a dog, which was fun for everyone!! Then, on Saturday night we had the Nickles and Neelys over for a cookout. I should have taken more pictures of the kids, but I did get one pic of Grace and Kate dancing in their leotards!

McWane Your Brain!

I let Henry skip preschool, and we met Pierce at McWane today. (I think that is pretty educational outing. They have signs that say "McWane Your Brain"...hence the blog post title.) Papa & Uncle Michael even came and met us for lunch. Grant was quick to ask, "Where's Mimi?!?" The kids had so much fun, although Henry was disappointed to find the Winter Wonderland Exhibit has been taken down.

It is amazing as the kids get older how much easier they are to manage on outings. We had such a nice, pleasant, non-chaotic time, and we stayed until after 1:30! I could not believe it. Needless to say, Grace was asleep by the time we got on the interstate. A princess needs her beauty rest!

Happy Birthday, Glenn!

On Saturday Henry helped his friend, Glenn, celebrate his 5th birthday at their church's family life center.

And last Thursday was Grace's dance picture day. It did not go so well. Luckily I captured a few pictures, since she would not let the photographer take any! I'm thinking the recital may be disastrous. We'll see!
